| Where We Are From the North take the A77 from Glasgow. Approaching the village on the A77 from Stranraer, fork right at the War Memorial into Heugh Road. Proceed for approximately 1/2 mile then turn sharp at the crossroads up Golf Course Road. The entry to Rickwood is first on the left. We also welcome pets by arrangement.
The Rickwood is ideally situated overlooking the village of Portpatrick and the Irish Sea yet is only a few minutes walk from the harbour and waterfront. Mountain Biking The 7 Stanes at Kirroughtree is now recognised as a World Class mountain biking centre having trails ranging from beginners right up to seriously challenging. Bike hire, a tea room and car parking is available at the centre which is only about 40 minutes by car from Portpatrick. If you have your own bike, we can provide secure storage. If you don't fancy biking, it is still worth a visit as there are ample forest walks with great scenery and wildlife such as red squirrels to be seen.

Portpatrick and Stranraer We are adjacent to Portpatrick Golf Club who offer discounted green fees for guests of Rickwood. Reductions are also available at Wigtownshire County Course. Other courses within a few miles are-Creachmore (Stranraer) and Lagganmore (near Portpatrick). Portpatrick is at the start of the Southern
Upland Way which In our village there are superb restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. We also have well stocked gift and craft shops including the ever popular Lighthouse Pottery which is a favourite with all of our guests. Our
harbour is ideal for a lazy time watching boats, including the
Portpatrick lifeboat coming and going. A few miles away There are numerous gardens to visit within a short journey from Portpatrick including the famed Logan Botanical Gardens. Other Gardens well worth a visit include Glenwhan near Glenluce and Dunskey Walled Garden is in Portpatrick itself. Dunskey Gardens now have a hedge maze suitable for all ages and is the only garden in South West Scotland with a maze. Those seeking a beach can find miles of sand at nearby Sandhead and a must is a visit to Scotland's Lands End, the Mull of Galloway for unrivalled coastal scenery and views to Isle of Man, Cumbria and Ireland. Starting in the 2006 season, our friends Ian & Lesley Cerexhe have founded Portpatrick Charters and will be using their 33 foot boat to take small parties on fishing, sight-seeing or nature watching trips. There are smokehouses nearby at Colfin or slightly further afield at Marrbury whilst a visit to Cream o' Galloway Visitor Centre is not to be missed. Castle Douglas, has many specialist food shops. If you are travelling to Portpatrick from the South or East, why not stop for a coffee on the way at Marrbuy's new tearoom and shop at Carsluith Castle, just before Newton Stewart. Other places of interest are the Logan Fish Pond near Port Logan (where 2000 Aces of Sky was filmed), the Gem Rock Museum at Creetown and the distillery at Bladnoch.
